So, this last Cross Country meet, held today (September 20th, 2014), didn't go as well as it could have. It was muddy, humid, hot, and a mosquito haven ~ AKA: the conditions were far less than ideal.
Owen Bailey slipped in the mud and hit a pole, resulting in this ugly, but in my teammates words "epic looking" cut.
Emilie Enke, who is also a photographer, lost her shoe in the mud, which was thick and about 5-6 inches deep, at the very beginning of the race. She ran about half a mile half-way barefoot before the coach ran over, stopped her, and put the shoe back on.
Ashtyn Farrell, the "evil twin" and most definitely one of the spunkiest runners I know, was pushing it like a pro.
The course had little traction, even with spikes, and quite a few team-members slipped and landed in the mud... myself included.
As a spectator for the first few races, I noticed quite a few kids on other teams stopping to walk or completely dropping out of the race. I am proud to say that none of my teammates did either. Though our times may have been higher than we would have liked, the Jaguars kept pushing along.
I know we are all aiming to prove ourselves next week...
And knowing my teammates I am sure we will do so.
I will end this entry with, as most people who know me already know quite well, one of my favorite quotes from one of my favorite people.
Oh... I can't resist, here is another Churchill quote, let's face it...
The man was a genius.
